Turning off store links in iTunes 8
Posted by Chris on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
Today, Apple released iTunes 8 with some cool new features. However one of the options that you used to be able to disable in the preference section if iTunes is no longer available. This option is turning off the Store links for every song in your library. A Mac software blog that I read posted a little help with this problem and provided a simple solution. First make sure iTunes is not open (Select iTunes and hit CMD-Q or go to iTunes->Quit on the Menu Bar at the top left hand corner of the screen). If you are a Mac user go to Finder->Utilities->Terminal and open the application or use Spotlight to search for ‘Terminal’ and open the application. In Terminal you will be prompted with a screen that allows you to enter text. Copy and paste this into the Terminal window and hit enter.
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE
Simply Cmd-Q or Terminal->Quit Terminal to exit Terminal. Start iTunes again and you should be set.
Here is a bit of info from the original post:
This is a quick post to show how to turn off those annoying iTunes Store arrow links that light up next to every column in iTunes 8. Apple have taken out the checkbox to hide them in the preferences. I’m not sure if they did it to simplify that monster of a preferences window or if they wanted to send more people to the iTunes store, but! I’m glad they haven’t disabled it altogether.
Sorry I don’t know the window’s solution…maybe you should buy a Mac
